The first school I ever attended was a pre-school at Jordan Jr. High. I don't remember the teachers I had or the kids in my class. The only real memories I have of that school was one time I was showing the other kids how to sit indian style while holding on to your feet and spinning around like a ball. The other memory I have was that one day there was no pre-school on a day when there usually was and Michael and I decided we were going to school whether there was school or not. So we started the long walk down the block. When we got to 9th west we were too scared to cross the street and one of the neighbors saw us standing there on the corner (9th west and 6th so} and came out and stood with us till my mom got there. I'm pretty sure we got into a little bit of trouble but I don't remember if we did or not.
The next school I went to was Parkview Elementary. My grandma would ask if I was in school yet and I'd say, "Yes, I'm in Kindergarten!" Apparently you weren't really in school till you were in the first grade. The school was quite a bit further away than the pre-school was but we had no choice but to walk home from school every day from about 1st grade on. We were poor and only had one car that my dad needed to drive to work. By this time we learned to cross at the cross walk instead of j walking. Sometime while in elementary school the old Jordan Jr. High was closed down and left vacant. It wasn't until I was an adult that the school was torn down and replaced with new houses.
I attended Jr. High at Glendale Jr. High. This school was a lot further away but I still had to walk most of the time. Sometimes a lady my mom did daycare for gave us a ride. It was well worth listening to her oldies station. When it was cold, it was really cold. On days I was too lazy to walk home, I would walk down to my grandpa Rice's house and he would always give us a ride home. That was nice so we did that a lot.
I attended East High school on 1300 E. and 800 S. The bus brought us to and from and that was a nice change. It would have been really hard to walk to and from there or any of the high schools. None of them were in walking distance. I didn't mind taking the bus. It was nice to have some time to just be. I enjoyed looking out the window and talking to my friends. When I was 16 I was glad to be able to drive to school but I still took the bus most days. It saved me from having to buy gas.
I also spent the first 5 months of my JR year in high school in Mexico. I was an exchange student in Mexico with the rotary club It was an awesome experience! I kept a journal throughout that time, a very detailed one. In fact, there are a few things there that I didn't remember but I had a wonderful experience. I would recommend everyone to do some traveling, especially outside of the united states.
I went to Salt Lake Community College a couple years after graduating from high school. I took some time off to be a nanny in NJ. I never did get my degree but I hope to once all my kids are in school full time. I don't quite know what I want to do but hopefully I'll figure it out.
